Undesrstanding Amadlozi/Ancestors

This is a very complex topic. By that I mean It takes time to truly understand Amadlozi and their way of doing things. Remember that they are living in the spiritual realm so the way they communicate with us or the way in which they try to get our attention can be very confusing and may or may not cause havoc in our lives.

Firstly one needs to know the different types of Amadlozi / Amathongo that one is living with. This may be difficult for an ordinary person. But I will try and briefly outline the differences:

Amadlozi

They are family members who have departed from this world and may be of your maternal or paternal lineage (there really is no particular lineage). Everyone has amadlozi with them and in their household.

Idlozi

Simply put this is the spirit of one who is departed having had the gift of helping others spiritually or otherwise (an iThongo that possesses someone).Your strength as one with Idlozi is dependant on the strength of iDlozi itself.

Isithunywa

A spirit that prayed a lot during their time on earth; may operate through impande, water, prayer or all.

Umndawo

Although many have their different understanding/interpretation of this iDlozi; my understanding is that this is a dominant masculine iDlozi. (May be Umndawo wamanzi or Umndawo waphezulu)

Umndiki

Although many have their different understanding/interpretation of this iDlozi; my understanding is that this is a dominant feminine iDlozi from Amadlozi looking after you.

Umnono

The spirits of abalozi and takes it's own time to mature compared to the other spirits.

The most important thing is to understand how your iDlozi communicates with you. If it through dreams than you need to find someone knowledgeable in that area to guide you in the interpretation thereof.

Comments

  1. I hope you are well. I've been told that numerous times by different people, sangomas, prophets that I have gifts. I've since been on a quest to get in touch with my ancestors to try get the whole pictures. To date, i hav prayed ,talk to them to come I've tried everything, phalaza etc still nothing.

I already have mosebestsi wa badimo. once done, i should start seeing a difference in communication with the elders. Still nothing.

i dream and forget (even after phalaza-ing with imithi yamadlozi) or i'm perhaps rushing this whole thing. How long does this process normally take, by process I mean.... after being told that you have a gift, how long does idlozi start communicating with you? I've known now for over a year.

I'm a bit frustrated, confused, and don't know how to move on with my life. The thing is i've even made peace and have accepted the calling.

I had assurance that i have to be a prophet and (umgoma) I just don't want this whole thing to catch me off guard again, where i would have already made my own plans about my life. All I need to know is, where to from here and what is the way forward.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. My first question to you is, have you accepted your calling? in isiZulu we call this ukuvuma.
A little ceremony has to be done when doing this.

Secondly I'm worried that you say "after being told that you have a gift," My take is that even though you get told, there has to be affirmations from yourself that agree with what you have been told. furthermore, if indeed you do have a calling and have never received any communication from your ancestors, whether it be via dreams or visions, then it is also quite possible that perhaps iDlozi lakho has not matured enough. For iDlozi to speak up, it has to be fully matured.
You don't just accept a calling..... a ceremony has to be done, nothing big or expensive but there is a way that these things are done. Speak to your healer and see if he/she may be able guide you through this. otherwise you can email me on myspirituality@live.com or emakhosini@outlook.com to discuss this further.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
    Be blessed!

  4. I would like to clear up some air.Our life has nothing to do with those who have pass on.They are not dead but they are willing to communicate with us.The biggest problem we are facing is that many traditional healers are living with pieces of knowledge. They do have a clear understanding of our past history and culture. We need to understand that Bantu people came from North Africa and they adopted most of Khoe culture and their healing practices.I am a Khoe and we are the only tribe that has Amakhosi. We are the only tribe that knows Southern Africa and its herbs.Amakhosi or Amandawe or Amanono or Abalozi they do talk like ordinary human beings when they visit someone.People dream because there are foreign spirits who are either good or bad.Amadlozi is a little spirit inside you and it speaks to other spirits in our realm. We need to be careful and not be deceived by foreign teachings.Inside us we have a Holy Ghost which is our companion and it is a little spirit that is inside us and it communicates directly with Almighty God.All these spirits do not possess power, but they can assist to call for an assistance from the foreign spirits that has powers.

  5. Its not true that you are the only tribe that has amakhosi as Koi and San people. I think you should visit every traditional healer in the country then assess whether they do have or dont have before making such ridiculous claims. You are the eldest tribe fair enough, before there was amazulu amaxhosa amatsonga and others as we know them today Koi people alread existed and some of the tribes we have are your descendants. it is therefore a fallacy to claim that all the other spirit would not descend upon them as wel as they are your descendants.

Then it changed I started dreaming of going to a house I don't know and every time I get to da gate I would nkeel and start digging with my hands and I wud see a root(impande) like of a tree and I wud wake up and not take it out. Then I had dreams of me dancing wearing sangoma clothes and all, I was told I have a gift but I actually never believed it that I wud have such a gift I tried running away from it and after years things started changing my life has been bad no happiness I have been taking depression medicine and still have no improvement I can't even find a job now. I have not been dreaming in a long time and when I do dream I forget my dreams.

    1. You need to consult a seer as soon as possible. It's clear that you have a calling and abadala need you to listen and heed their call. The longer you leave this unattended is the more they will manifest themselves to you causing even more havoc in your life.

  15. Sani bonani for the 1st time I can say ngiyalithanda Idlozi lami.

I 1st discovered of my calling while I was in primary as I would see and hear a lion as if it was next to me... I could literally feel it breathing next to me and i had so much anger I would collapse if i got very angry my family took me to kzn to live there but I got worse.... I accepted the calling while in highschool as I was too depressed to live... Nalo bekuthi malivuka lithi selizwile ncono lingithathe nokuthi Lona kade lime ukusebenza... at age 14 I cud speak nomoya wam ngawucela ungihambise next morning I woke up saying ngiyahamba aliphelanga ilanga ngaphaphama kwa gobela.

Uur a gift to the community coz rven ppl who just wana talk they can come u don't have to think of it as ur life dreams going down the drain... You becomethe icon of ppl who need to get ☺o their dreams. This is the hardest beautifully given gift...Am proud to be a young msebenzeli and you should ask yourself if its real only idlozi lakho knows

  16. When I was born, my mother tried to breastfeed me but I instantly became sick and it went to a point that she ended up asking my barren uncles wife to adopt me for a while. When my uncles wife held me I did not cry and she never struggled to raise me from 3 months until I was 5 years. I then went to live with my mom but then around age 8, I started dreaming of walking and the ground suddenly giving way and I fall into a blue vast ocean. No matter what I dreamt, be it a bridge, a tar road, a gravel road, they all gave way. It got so bad that whenever I lay on my bed at night, I would feel like the mattress was floating on water, it would feel so real that I wouldn't move as I could feel that one wrong move and I'm going to drown. One night it got so bad that I cried and my mom woke up and asked me to come to her only to be surprised by me telling her I'm afraid to drown. Soon that stopped and I started having a feeling that something was following me wherever I went, I think I was around 13. One night I looked at the corner of the bedroom and saw an indescribable human/fish/bone-like/very old creature looking at me. From then on it never hid. Somehow I started preferring to sit in the dark in a room alone than being with people. It was like that thing hated it when I was around people. One day I cried and told my mom because I couldn't stand it anymore. It stopped a while. I was 16 I think when it was stormy with very dark clouds and I chose to go out and took my grandfather's spear, I motioned like I was drawing a spiraling circle in the clouds and to my surprise the clouds took that form as if a tornado was about to come. As I grew older I became more restless and I would dream of a huge yellow and white snake that had yellowish grey old hair and wore earrings. I started developing this ability to pin point a huge water source like a dam even without seeing it or anybody knowing it was there. Whenever I got near water, I would feel uncomfortable. Things started getting worse until I decided I have to see a traditional healer. My mother recommended me to some but whenever I went, I could "hide" from being read by their bones, I don't know how I did it. I could tell them a lot more about them even though I had no bones than they could tell me with their bones. One Saturday, I woke up and had an urge to go to a sangoma, I didn't know where but I took my mom along and drove. I could see a huge snake very far standing upright and looking at me, I drove towards it and sure enough when I got close it disappeared. I then asked around for a healer and they told me there's a very powerful healer close and I went there. She smiled at me when she saw me and I was told she has a snake in one of her rooms that if u are spiritually strong u can go in and it will lick you and endow you with great blessings. I asked her if I could go in but she said I'm still young but she could see i could stand it. Sadly she fell sick a few days after and I was told that she was the only one who could take me to the snake so I had to wait for her to get better. One day while visiting her, she had some geese and as they passed by, one goose left the others and walked straight towards me, I walked strangely like it was possessed. It came to my feet and fell down dead just like that at my feet. Sadly the sangoma passed on without resolving this for me, her grandchild took over. I tried to carry on trying to find my calling but something in me felt insulted by being subjected to such a person, like she was unworthy. Then as weeks passed, I could feel that there is a river calling me in Limpopo. I just don't know where to start in going there. I don't know what to do to find meaning. My grandfather trained underwater to be a sangoma and he was a powerful one I hear, the sangoma I was consulting who passed on also had trained underwater, so it feels to me like my spirits refuse to be contacted by someone who has not walked that path. neogm@outlook.com

I happen to be house of dreams! When my father passed on and a two years had went by, I started dreaming about him. It felt like he was really with me, I could even know when I was going to dream about him because of the fevers I had prior to the dreams. Then it stopped. Resumed to me dreaming of snakes(all kinds), Grannies I don't know bathing me in a river, a very tall figure discussing issues with me and a guy with ocean blue eyes(to tell you, they were the most awesome thing Ive seen). Then I dream receiving a call, telling me I they don't know what Im scared of because they think the only thing that would probably give me a problem is the snuff. When I am in a mini bus/public transport, I see myself kneeling and clapping my hands. Sometimes it feels like Im losing my mind! I also have a vision of a sangoma standing behind me angishaye amahlombe ngeshoba. One day she told me that " sengingena ngaphakathi kuwe manje ngane yami". The only thing that calms me down is impepho, I even started to drink it now. Lastly I had a dream of a dreadlocked guy ethi kimi "ungumngoma, usazonikwa umuntu osokusiza" and I woke up.

  28. Hi, I grew up as a troubled child and would be moved from grandma to grandma, and uncle to uncle of my mother's side of the family. I have been told numerous times that I have gift (Ngazalwa ngimbethe) as I would attempt with fail to find herbs to boost my luck.
I left my job two years ago to try business but it failed and I can't get another job, while bills are pilling up.

My mother's family belong to the Seventh Day Adventist church where idlozi is regarded as a demon. My grandmother on my father's side breaths fire whenever I ask to do any ritual.

My question is, how do I resolve my problem on my own without involving and provoking anyone from any side of the family. I live in a flat where there is no yard to perform any rituals.

  31. Ok. So I dream of two Sangomas, The first one utshela abantu izindaba zabo in the open and then she comes to me asho inkinga enginayo in my waking life (bloatedness)and then she tells me the remedy. Next, she tells me ukuthi ngiyisangoma already kodwa I must go to the second sangoma (asho igama lakhe and the area she stays in)so that she can take me to the "waters" to complete the ritual. Sangoma2 appears and tells sangoma1 that it is a dangerous procedure to do it without the other stages. Sangoma1 insists, sangoma2 reminds her that when she counts to 3 while performing the river stuff - something will rise from the water. I wake up from the dream! Super confusing

  32. What hurts me the most part, is that people are thrown left & right in wild goose chase's, by being sadly convinced that there are deities & spiritual apparition's that exist: in my case and true opinion through experience: THEY DON'T. There's always a ceremony that must be performed in order to speak, get messages or be fulfilled in life by those so called deities - only to find a person having spent so much hard earned money & even going into debt for such foolishness. Wake up Bantu; work hard & you will get success in every facet of your life eventually. Prayer & Western ways I don't believe in either.

  33. can someone help me understand this . when i was about 9 years old i and my brother who is 3 years younger than me used to enjoy playing by the river, and my mother in particular never like that ,she particularly worn us on several occasion.one Saturday i still remember vividly I and my brother took a walk to the river to swim as usual, but this time around things went sour because a tall dack guy came to us and he was about to kill us ,suddenly when this man was about to kill us we saw an old man with grey hair in the river carrying a mirror now what surprised me was that when this guy who wanted to kill us running away after he had looked into the river. after the runing away of this thug we suddely went back to the river to look for this old man until today we havent find this old man , however after that i stated having dreams of the very same river with snakes and i was riding on this big snake and this other small snakes were swimming with me. and when i was 12 years i starede loosing friends coz they will be some voice telling me what the were actually saying about me and when i asked them they question my source . however our mother is a Christians she introduced us to a Pentecostal christian belief system and in the church they do not believe in amadlozi. however i got born again but this thing of having vision never stopped. i will out of the blue dream about my pastor having an accident and actually learn later that actually my pastor got evolved in an accident , i remember when i wanted some things i will not stop praying until i see that thing in my prayer and then i will stop praying .. however some of the people in the church didn't like that so i had to stop going to church when i was now in my twenties. until now i recently saw an old man in my dreams who poured something i dont understand in my right hen side ear and immediately waked and i narrated this to my wife and she poured my ear with the breast milk...but now of late i sometimes during the day hear sounds of the water in my ear and sometimes it is inching like when studying or doing something that requires my concentration....i recently had a dream wearing an orange or kind like reddish cloth with a black small stripes towards the end of the garment ...and i was talking in spirits and a lot happened ....

now can someone explain to me how do i get help because I come from a family who do not believe in this and before my dead passed away as a christian .

  36. Thokoza gogo

I am a 28years young women who is raised by 2 parents who are well known to be pastors where we I've.

Though throughout growing been experiencing my mother to be having the calling of healing but have been having troubles in finding the true direction for her , to a point that even I myself have been suffering from dreams and experiences in my life that I do not understand and need to know the correct way to forfill all this in a good way.

Now I met a man who is a healer and says he wants to help me and marry me but I am skeptical about him because these days you find alot of people claiming to be healers while they just want to use other people's gifts to uplift themselves.

Really wish you find this and hoping to hearing from you

  38. I am 27 years old female and I have been single now for 2 years 8 months. No man has ever approached me in this period.I don't hav a child and even worse I am an only child,my mother is desperate for a grandchild but men are just not interested.I have my own house and car and I know I am a good person but have no luck in a relationship.I went to a Zion Church and everytime when they sing I get sort of like electrical vibrations from my neck to my arms and back constantly.Every now and then I do have dreams that come true.I am been constantly told at Church that I have Isithunywa, but what bothers me most is that I want a serious relationship and kids of my own.Could the Isithunywa be blocking my romantic relationship?

  43. Thokoza Gogo. I have been told several times by iinyanga that ndingumntu onegazi elimhlophe. I see people abadala xa ndilele. one of them told me I will not make it if I don't accept the calling. I was once showed a place which looked familiar and I was told that is where I will get help. recently I went to bed and as soon as I closed my eyes I saw lit up candles in a room and the more I focused on these they disappear. I would close my eyes and they would be back and each time, more would appear until the whole room filled up. two days ago I saw a man and I knelt before him and it seemed he was preforming some ritual and he aske me to look up and it appeared that we were under the sea and when I looked up...there was a huge great white shark. the strange thing is that in the area we were at was dry and there was even a fire with a pot inside.
I do not know what to do and donot know how to go about finding guidance

  45. I have been having dreams for years. My grandfather from my mom's side was a healer and most of my family members from that side have a calling. My first encounter was in primary school when we were walking to school and a big snake approached and crawling right in front of us, none of them saw it but me, as I jumped over it to alert everyone to run. I'm a Xhosa descend and my life has been lonely because I cannot stand being around a crowd. I have left my relationship because it makes me uncomfortable to have these dreams in someones presence which at times have to share with him as someone who witnessed my sleeps discomfort. I'm also a bit sceptical to consult and use things (ziwasho and muthi) that may interfere/ not go along with what is intended for me.
